Isolde was quite thrilled that the snow was melting and the warmth of spring was on it's way. She'd had just about enough of trying to keep herself warm all the time, especially during the cold nights. But today, the sun was shining, casting down rays of heat that soothed her chilled body. She sought solace in a warm patch of grass near the border of Aryn; it was still partially wet from the melted snow, but she didn't care. It was warm here and that's the way she liked it. Isolde let her eyes flutter closed and she let out a huff of contentment.

However, her contentment didn't last long. Inside of her mind, she had very few memories to turn to. Before meeting some of the wolves in Aryn, he mind was blank, and even though she was thankful for them, she was growing extremely tired of the vast ocean of nothingness that lay behind those recent memories.

The coming of spring was a welcome sight to Niels, knowing it would bring more life to the landscape again. Watching the flowers poke up again after such a long time of being buried in the snow was always a great thing to see. He admired the flowers, really, so determined to sprout even after being pushed down and smothered for such a long time.

As he wandered to the edge of Aryn's borders, Niels became slightly wary. This wasn't very far from his old home, which made him nervous. He wasn't welcome there anymore, after all, and they'd probably kill him on sight if they found him. He stayed just beyond the border of Aryn, getting as close as he could to the markers. He was debating just crossing over them and passing through, since this was a tiny pack after all, when the smell of a female stopped him. He spotted her before she did him, and stopped.

"Hello," he called out cautiously, walking over. "What are you doing all the way out here?"

Isolde inhaled deeply, pushing the ever present desire to remember her past as as she tried desperately to hold onto the here and now. The sun was shining, birds were singing, and the flowers were blooming. Things would be alright- or at least she hoped. As she finally began to relax and perhaps drift off, a scent caught her attention. A greeting followed soon after; it was friendly, but cautious. Isolde slowly rose from her laying position as her gaze fell upon the being who had called to her. It was a black male, muscled and well built, but not much taller than herself.

She huffed a little at his question and averted her gaze. Why did everyone always have to bother her when she was trying to relax with stupid questions? She decided to answer anyway; she was outside of Aryn's borders and ignoring this brute may cause trouble for her.

"I dare say, what does it look like I am doing, stranger?" She called to him, exasperated.

Niels raised a brow at the way she spoke to him, briefly perplexed and wondering why she was so irritable before he merely shrugged it off and moved on, clearing his throat. He stopped a few feet away from her and exhaled slowly. He suddenly regretted asking.

"I don't know," he said with a slightly mocking tone, imitating hers. "Laying around in the middle of nowhere? I was concerned you might be injured."

Clearing his throat, Niels shifted himself to stand straighter, which cued him to remember when his mother used to shout at him for it. Oh, stand up straight, boy. Do you want to make us look bad? Or worse than you already do, anyway. He flinched at the recollection and went back to slouching.

"Anyway," he continued, looking down at her. "I'm Niels, though you didn't ask."

Isolde scoffed lightly. Injured? Definitely not. Well, not physically. Perhaps mentally, but that was different. She noticed his strange shift in stature, going from slouching to standing straight, but then right back to slouching again. He seemed distracted for a moment and Isolde briefly wondered why before she became annoyed. He must have remembered something- something from his past, that he could remember. She envied that.

Turning her gaze away, she spoke as if uninterested, "Pray tell, does it look like I am ill?" She gave him a second to look her over- if he wished to -before she stood and shook out her golden pelt. Her amber eyes landed on his figure again and she looked disappointed as she scanned him. He wasn't unattractive, but definitely not her type. She hmphed quietly and took a few steps towards Aryn's border. "I would say that it is nice to meet you, Niels," She said in a rather patronizing manner. For a moment his name interested her, but the interest was quickly gone. "But I am inclined to tell the truth."

She contemplated keeping her name from him for a moment. He was civil and offered hers, so she might as well return the favor. "If you must know, I am Isolde."

Niels rolled his eyes at her, shaking his head. Boy, this girl was something... He didn't like her. She was so condescending; it reminded him of his parents. And his brother.

Shaking his head, Niels let out an exasperated sigh, glancing at her for only a brief moment before becoming disinterested. "Not at first glance, but you never know." He gave a half-hearted shrug.

"Believe me, the feeling is mutual, Isolde," Niels spoke her name like it tasted bad on his tongue, which it did, actually. She reminded him too much of Tristan... An entitled, spoiled little brat.

Isolde flicked her tail in annoyance. She was tired of talking to this wolf and wanted to be in the sun again; she had moved into the shade to be farther away from him and now the lingering winter air was starting to nip at her skin under her thinning coat.

"Then I believe we've come to an impasse." She said. "Perhaps it is time we both went our separate ways, dear wanderer." Disdain dripped form her words as she turned away, now looking at him from the corner of her eyes. She had to admit, it wasn't every day that a loner was concerned for a pack wolf's wellbeing, but still. She wouldn't get all friendly just for one simple little act of kindness.

Niels gave a slightly amused snort, shaking his head. He looked at her for a moment, eyes slightly narrowed, before he simply shrugged and looked away. "Good luck with whatever the hell you were doing," he said, nodding at her before he started to walk off. Then he paused, glancing back at her.

"Oh and that spoiled little brat attitude you've got isn't as cute as you think it is," Niels said, giving a slight smirk and a raise of his eyebrows. "Believe me, my brother was the same way."

With that, he turned his back on her and continued on his way, not bothering to wait for her response.

Isolde hmphed again at his response and turned away as well. His remark didn't deserve a retort, plus he was already walking away so she would have to shout. Either way, they were done and she could go back to laying down. But as she moved back toward the sunny patch, something he said stuck in her brain. Brother. She vaguely remembered another wolf talking about their brother, a brother who hated him. As the recent memory became clearer, she stopped, her paw hovering just above the grass as if someone had hit pause.

Yes, there was no doubt; that was Tristan's brother. Isolde set her paw back down and for half a second she almost called after him, but he was already gone, vanishing between the shadows of the trees. It was too late now, but perhaps she could find Tristan; she could tell him which way Niels had gone. Suddenly, Isolde felt a reason to leave the pack. Before, she had been searching for one, but now it was staring her right in the face. Yes, she could pursue this. Without a second thought, she turned on her heals and began her trek back to the main den. She needed to speak to Athena, speak to her about leaving Aryn.
