Kiterrax:

Crash was gleefully dancing around members of Morrow who'd decided to help clear out the mountain pass between Morrow and Chandor. Every so often she'd pick up a rock in her mouth and drop it by the pile they were forming, but mostly, Crash just watched. She was finding new things to climb, the lack of trees being disturbing to her. Instead she was trying to scale the mountain they were clearing.

High up where she could only hear slivers of voices carrying on the wind, Crash admired the view of Morrow. She spotted a white blob down on the ground, and frowned. What would Gypsee be doing here? No one was injured, and if they were, Crash would have to fetch Gypsee first.

Getting down proved easier than getting up was, and this time Crash even managed to avoid bumping her head. She ran to meet Gypsee, wagging her tail. "Gypsee! What are you doing out here? Have you come to help the team move rocks?"

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee loped up to the mountain side, her tail waving. She spotted Crash up on the mountain slightly, working her way up. Well, it made a difference to trees, Gypsee thought to herself. She padded forward and wagged her tail fiercely as Crash approached her. At Crash's question, she shook her head.

"No, Howl is sending you and me to Chandor to check on the members there, he doesn't know if there is a healer there or not. There has been a breakout of..." Gypsee looked around and leaned in closer to whisper.

"The Foaming Mouth disease" Gypsee muttered, looking back at Crash, a slightly worried look on her face.

-----

Kiterrax:

"Oh!" Crash cried, glancing over to the pass. She leaned in conspiratorially when Gypsee did, but pulled back moments later, frowning. "The what? Nevermind, it sounds serious. Let's go tell Lyn what's up," Crash yapped, excited to go see Lyn again.

Shaking her head, she turned and began moving to the pass, glad it was at least passable now, instead of being blocked up by rocks and dirt. It was still rocky, though, so Crash called back for Gypsee to be careful as they began passing through.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee followed Crash up the rocky slope, being careful not to lose her footing. She watched as Crash seemed to easily scale it, and wished she was able to do the same. Instead, she looked like a newborn calf, her legs in different directions. She managed to clamber to the top, and stood for a moment, relishing in the moment.

"I don't know how you do this all the time Crash!" Gypsee said, looking down the other side, and feeling a slight knot in her stomach.

-----

Kiterrax:

Grinning back at Gypsee, Crash laughed at how silly her adopted sister looked. "It's easy," she cried back, continuing clambering through the pass. She did slow down, though, letting her sister catch up. Now that they were out of hearing range of the rest of the group, Crash glanced askance to Gypsee.

"What is the foaming mouth disease?" She asked curiously. It didn't sound like anything good.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee looked at Crash upon her asking the question and pulled a worried expression.
"It’s a horrible disease that effects animals, it can affect your mind, make you dangerous, lash out and eventually kills you, if other wolves don’t do it first. The main symptom being that you get foam all around the mouth. It’s horrible. It’s also known as rabies. If ever you come across a wolf that's foaming at the mouth, run away, don’t let it touch you. A simple scratch can make you infected." Gypsee explained. She looked at her adopted sister and gave her a reassuring smile.
"But don't worry. No one in Morrow has it"

-----

Kiterrax:

Crash stared wide eyed and open mouthed at Gypsee as she talked, imagining the pictures. "That sounds horrifying!" Crash said adamantly. "We have to make sure Chandor is okay, too, it would be awful if something happened to them."

Speaking of Chandor, Crash increased her pace, nearing the end of the pass. She paused once she was free of the mountain, sniffing about, hoping Lyn was nearby.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee wasn't surprised by Crash’s reaction. Everyone usually reacted the same.

"It truly is a horrible thing" Gypsee said, looking to the floor. She noticed Crash scenting around and presumed that they had approached Chandor. She looked around and took in the surrounding area. She had never met Lyn before, so was a tiny bit nervous.

-----

Kiterrax:

Crash nodded at Gypsee, already distracted by her next task. She couldn't find Lyn's scent, but she did remember the way to the main den site of Chandor, so she began heading there. Hopefully Lyn would be there. Crash didn't want to have to run around all of Chandor just to deliver a message.

Smiling at Gypsee, she beckoned her onwards. "I bet Lyn will be at their camp," she said, explaining the lack of the alpha.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee nodded and picked up the pace. She hoped this alpha was nice. As she paced forward, she went through all the symptoms in her head and thought about the time it could possibly take to spread to here. She could be sure that no one in Chandor had it, as no one in Morrow was affected and Chandor was even further! But still, she had to be sure.

"I just hope everyone is ok!" Gypsee said, half to herself, her mind distracted.

-----

MatrixPotato:

The air in Chandor seemed to be thicker this day. Perhaps because of the humidity of summer, but Lyn knew otherwise. Sure, it was hot, but it was bearable. It was herself that was causing the thickness. He mind was clouded with duties of being alpha and it seemed as though she could never get a break. Even when scouting she was on edge; Chandor was new, and though she'd been able to remember many of the landmarks now, it was still a heavy job to make sure that nothing was out of place.

Usually she would've let Tamarack accompany her on her rounds to check the borders, but today Lyn just needed to be by herself. She'd been training herself to think while also staying on alert. Sometimes it worked and sometimes she tripped or fell in the river- it was a learning process, but Lyn was sure she was getting better, even if it was only an ounce at a time.

Right now, she was thinking about finding someone to share the alpha duties with. It wasn't a nice subject that she liked to think about. In her mind, the alphas were mates, like her mother and father were. Traditionally, that's how it usually was. But that meant Lyn would have to find a mate as well as an alpha, and that thought made her stomach twist. Her mind suddenly drifted to Howl and his pack. Did he have a mate? She couldn't recall him mentioning one, so perhaps he was leading by himself as well. She sighed- but then her face twisted into confusion as a familiar scent drifted her way. Crash? She was trying to stay on alert, but maybe she was thinking too much...

Lyn stopped and turned in the direction of the scent. It was coming from the mountain pass. It was Crash- and someone else? But why was she coming to Chandor? Lyn blinked in confusion and immediately headed toward them.

-----

Kiterrax:

Trotting happily on the trail leading towards Chandor dens, Crash caught a scent on the still air. It was a scent that would forever remind her of Kausen, and she abruptly changed directions, heading towards Lyn's scent. She glanced back, making sure Gypsee was still keeping up with her.

"Lyn is this way," Crash said in way of explanation. She wagged her tail, anticipating meeting her friend again.

-----

MatrixPotato:

Lyn's previous thoughts were all put on hold as she made her way toward Crash and the other wolf that she could smell. She didn't know what this meeting would be about- it seemed to always be something surprising when Crash was involved, so Lyn prepared herself for urgent, exciting, or devastating news. She hoped it was the former.

Finally the brown shewolf and her companion came into view. Lyn gave them a cheerful woof and a smile as they closed the gap between once another.

"Hey Crash, and uh-" Her smile faltered a little as she looked at the other gray shewolf. "...friend?"

-----

Kiterrax:

Grinning widely when she spotted Lyn, Crash woofed back, her tail wagging so fast it felt like it was going to fly away. "Hey Lyn!" she said. "This is Gypsee, Morrow's healer."

She paused for a moment, glancing at Gypsee. Quieting, she continued on. "There's been an outbreak of the foaming mouth disease. I don't know if you know yet, but Howl sent us to warn you and, in case you don't have a healer, to check for the disease."

-----

MatrixPotato:

"It's nice to meet you, Gypsee." Lyn said with a nod and a friendly smile. It vanished though, once Crash extrapolated on the real reason they had come to Chandor. She'd hoped it was better news, but she knew that Howl wouldn't send them over for any nonchalant reason. She had heard her father talk about the disease before, but Lyn wasn't entirely familiar with the foaming mouth disease.

"I sort of know. Mind filling me in?" Lyn looked between the two as she turned and began leading them in the direction of the main den. They were a ways away from it, so there should be enough time for her to get well acquainted with said topic on their trek. She'd also have to give a thanks to Howl for being generous enough to send over his healer.

-----

Kiterrax:

Crash fell into step with Lyn, glancing at Gypsee. "Well, uh, Gypsee kind of knows more about it than I do? I've never even heard of it, to be honest..." She trailed off, frowning.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee trailed behind, her mind elsewhere. She was carefully studying her surroundings. It was amazing how many wolves Crash knew, she seemed to know every pack in the area quite well!! Gypsee was more of a 'stay in the territory' type wolf unless she had reasons. Like now...

Gypsee’s ears pricked up when she heard her name, and realized the two wolves were waiting for an explanation.

"Oh, yeah! I had an emissary from Kausen come to Morrow to inform us of the foaming mouth disease. They found a wolf with it near their territory, and it attacked a couple of the members. Since then the wolf has been destroyed and exposed of with fire. There have been no other reports, and it is not known if it’s affected prey. The members attacked have been checked and given the all clear for now." Gypsee explained, keeping her eyes fixed ahead, trying to remember all the details. Once she finished she looked back to Crash and Lyn, waving her tail slightly.

-----

MatrixPotato:

Lyn frowned as she listened to Gypsee's explanation. Hearing that someone was attacked in Kausen made her almost want to run back there and check herself, but she couldn't. She'd have to make do with their word. Perhaps she'd send someone to check just in case, or maybe when she took Tamarack for another visit she could check. She put those thoughts in the back of her mind for later as well.

"Alright. So I know this disease makes you foam at the mouth and can kill you if you get bitten. But my question is, can you only get it if you're bitten or can it be transferred through other ways, like scratching?" Lyn asked, seeming to slip into serious-business mode as they loped along. If her pack was in danger, she couldn't risk fooling around or beating around the bush.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee nodded, afraid to admit it.

"It can be caught through scratching and scrapes. The disease infects blood and saliva and is passed on through drawing blood or being bitten. You don't want it to enter your blood stream. The wolves attacked in Kausen did not draw blood i was told. My sister assured me."  Gypsee explained. She noticed a shift in the breeze and could smell the Chandor wolves. From a slight scent, she couldn't smell the distinct tang of infected, but still that did not help with her nerves. Kausen was not that far away and even if there were no more reports of the foaming mouth disease, didn't mean there weren't any more

-----

MatrixPotato:

Lyn's frown deepened as Gypsee continued. She turned her gaze forward as they were drawing closer to the camp, her mind suddenly worried about her pack mates. Hardly any of them- if any at all -would get into a fight. Although by the sound of it, the infected didn't necessarily need incentive to start a fight.

"Is it curable?" She asked at last, after a small silence passed between them. "Or preventable?" Lyn looked back at the gray shewolf now, hoping for a pleasant answer this time. She doubted it, though.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee raised her head slightly when Lyn asked her another question. She hated the thought of Chandor in trouble; however, she knew how to deal with it, thankfully.

"Both to some degree. It's curable if caught early enough, within the first stages. The symptoms would be eyes becoming glazed, the wolf acting out of character, becoming cold distant and snapping, as well as acting like they are in constant pain. The later symptoms would then be random attacking, and then finally the foaming, at which case, it’s too late. Prevention is the best solution. Running away helps, but chances are they will chase you. You need to kill them; a thump to the back of the neck is safest, away from its teeth and claws, then setting fire to it to completely be rid of the disease." Gypsee explained, giving slight demonstrations with Crash, showing Lyn at which part behind the head to hit.

"Try not to use teeth or claws; you would then be more at risk. It’s tricky I know, but do-able."

-----

MatrixPotato:

Lyn nodded along as she watched a listened carefully to Gypsee's instructions. She'd never killed another wolf before, but if she had to, she would do it to keep her pack safe. Although, she would definitely have to practice killing things without using her teeth or claws.

"Alright, thank you." She gave them a smile, though it held little enthusiasm. She didn't recall seeing any of the symptoms in her pack mates, but she was glad that Gypsee was here to double check. A healer suddenly became Lyn's top priority. She knew very little of healing or any herbs for that matter. Perhaps one of the others did.

They neared the den site and Lyn gave a low howl to announce their prescience, as well a call to anyone else who might be absent to make their way to them. She nodded to Gypsee to begin examining them, as she explained to her pack what was going on.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee nodded and trotted forward to the first wolf. She showed them she was friendly, looking back to Crash quickly, making sure where she was, before starting her checks. She started with checking their eyes, mouth, general features, making not of any cuts or bruises, and if any wolf did have a cut, she covered it over, to cover all possibilities.

"If a wolf shows symptoms of what I just told you, isolate them while they are treated; make sure they are kept well away from the others. If they start to turn, you don’t want them in the middle of your territory running lose!" Gypsee added, poking her head round another wolf to look at Lyn. She gave her a smile, trying to let her optimistic side get through. She was usually bouncy and happy like Crash, but as a Healer, Gypsee knew when the time was to be serious.

-----

MatrixPotato:

Lyn gave another curt nod. That's what she had planned to do, but she was glad that her idea had been reinforced. She gave each of her pack mates reassuring looks as they were all examined. They seemed uneasy, and with good reason, but otherwise fairly calm and compliant. Lyn was thankful for that. Though she knew in the future, she'd probably have some other characters to deal with. It didn't take long for all of the wolves to be checked; there were a small number of them, just shy of Morrow's numbers, so it went pretty quickly.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Once Gypsee was done, she smiled again, and trotted back to where Crash and Lyn stood, wagging her tail.

"Everyone is clear, and there is no sign of the disease here." Gypsee announced to Crash and Lyn, looking at them both. She smiled, more reassuringly now, happy that Chandor was ok. She noted they weren't much bigger than Morrow, but to be fair, as far as she knew, Chandor was pretty new too, along with Morrow.

-----

MatrixPotato:

Once Gypsee announced that she had finished checking and cleared the okay that no one had the disease, Lyn visibly relaxed. She realized she had been tensing ever since they had told her why they'd come here, and she was nervous that someone might actually have the disease. But now that she knew no one didn't, she smiled in relief.

"Thank goodness. You really know your stuff, Gypsee." She chuckled, trying to make light of the situation now that everything was okay. "Oh! Almost forgot!" She blurted suddenly. Lyn trotted away for a moment, toward their food stash and returned with two large rabbit carcasses. She passed them to Gypsee and Crash. "Please, take these. And make sure to tell Howl that it's not payment; it's a thank you."

-----

Kiterrax:

Crash was quiet during the examinations, her worry palpable. She stood near Lyn, her tail dropping while she watched her adopted sister work with ease. Once it was over, though, and Gypsee announced an all-clear, Crash perked up.

This was good! It meant she could still get to know everybody and play around, if nobody had the disease. Gypsee and Crash turned as one to watch Lyn, and Crash whined with delight when she saw the rabbits. She fell upon them, laughing. "Oh man, I love rabbit so much! I don't know that there'll be much to take back to my brother," she giggled, picking them both up in her mouth.

She glanced at Gypsee, her mouth completely full, trying to see what was going to happen now.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee saw Lyn relax, so she wagged her tail more, looking pleased at Crash. It certainly was a relief!! She blushed slightly at Lyn’s comment.

"Oh, thank you! I didn't think what I did was really that spectacular!" Gypsee laughed a little, shifting her weight slightly. Her expression changed to surprise however when Lyn handed them the rabbits.

"Are you sure???" Gypsee blurted out, unsure that they should take the rabbits.

-----

MatrixPotato:

Lyn let out a small laugh at Crash's display of fondness toward the rabbits. Her smile turned warm and genuine. She was happy to know Crash; even though she was a little ditsy and on the spastic side, she was a joy to have around. She didn't quite know Gypsee well yet, but she hoped to in the coming years.

"Yes, please. I insist. I don't have a healer right now, so even if no one was infected and it was just a check-up, without Morrow, I probably wouldn't have known of the outbreak at all." She said with a nod of her head. "But, at least save Howl a few bites." She winked at Crash.

-----

Kiterrax:

Crash grinned as wide as she could at Lyn, before she moved in close to nuzzle the older wolf quickly. She moved back and smiled again, waving a paw in goodbye. Crash looked to Gypsee, beckoning her along, and she began making her way back to Morrow, her tail held high.

She couldn't wait to return to Chandor. Crash adored her job as messenger, especially when she got to see Lyn.

-----

ShadowMagpie:

Gypsee watched Crash leave for home, but before following her, she turned to Lyn.

"It was great to meet you; I hope we see each other again soon!!" Gypsee yapped, her tongue hanging out and her tail wagging, finally fully relaxed after doing all the checks. She flicked her ears and leaped away, following the path Crash took. Just before she was out of eye shot, Gypsee tripped, falling flat on the floor, her legs sprawled. There was a moment that she lay there before springing up, looking at Lyn in the distance, giving an embarrassed laugh and trotting away, hastily catching up with Crash, before bursting into laughter. She would definitely have to come back to Chandor!!!

-----

MatrixPotato:

"The feelings are mutual! You're welcome to visit whenever you like." Lyn said with a smile and a wag of her tail. "Have a safe trip back." She called as Gypsee turned and followed in Crash's paw steps. Only moments later, Gypsee literally tripped and Lyn couldn't help but laugh a little, after seeing that Gypsee was alright. Now that she thought about it, the two Morrow shewolves seemed a lot alike- though Gypsee was definitely meeker in personality than Crash, Lyn wondered if they might be related. Perhaps the next time they met, she'd ask. But for now she could only ponder.
:icondomain-of-the-wolf:

Gypsee and Crash come to Chandor to tell Lyn about the foaming mouth disease and check that all the members are healthy and uninfected!
